Ancient City of Bagan

BAGAN, MYANMAR . 2013

There are places that impress us with their beauty, and there are places that quietly change the way we think about time. Bagan was one of those places for me.

I visited Myanmar in 2013 and spent time exploring the ancient city of Bagan, where more than two thousand temples and pagodas still stand across the plains. Built between the 11th and 13th centuries, they remain one of the world's great archaeological landscapes. Watching the morning light drift across these centuries-old structures, it was difficult not to think about the countless lives that had passed through them before mine.

As photographers, we spend much of our time preserving moments. Yet standing in Bagan reminded me that photographs aren't only about a single moment in time. They're part of a much longer story. Every portrait becomes a small piece of someone's history, growing more meaningful with every passing year.

Perhaps that's what I brought home from Bagan. Not simply photographs of remarkable temples, but a deeper appreciation that while moments are fleeting, the things we choose to preserve can continue speaking long after we're gone.
