Snippets of Amsterdam

AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS . 2018

Some of the world's most memorable cities were shaped not by resisting their surroundings, but by learning to live with them.

During my visit to Amsterdam in 2018, I found myself wandering along its network of canals, historic streets and distinctive narrow houses. Built on reclaimed land and interwoven with more than a hundred kilometres of canals, the city has spent centuries adapting to life alongside water. Today, those waterways are more than an engineering achievement—they've become part of Amsterdam's unmistakable character.

Travelling reminds us that every place has its own way of solving life's challenges. Looking back at these photographs, I'm reminded that character often grows from working with what we have rather than wishing for something different. Perhaps that's why Amsterdam feels so enduring. It embraced its circumstances, and in doing so, became unlike anywhere else in the world.
