Animal Sanctuaries
NAIROBI, KENYA - 2017
Some of the most memorable wildlife encounters are the ones that never happen.
During my journey through Kenya in 2017, I visited both Ruma National Park and Nairobi National Park, two protected areas dedicated to conserving some of Africa's most remarkable wildlife. Ruma is one of the few places where the endangered Roan Antelope can still be found, and despite spending hours searching, I never managed even a glimpse. Strangely, that only deepened my appreciation for these landscapes. The privilege of visiting a sanctuary lies not in what we are guaranteed to see, but in knowing these animals still have a place to call home.
Wildlife has never followed our schedules, and perhaps that's exactly as it should be. Looking back at these photographs, I'm reminded that conservation isn't measured by how many animals appear before our cameras, but by the knowledge that they continue to survive, often unseen, in the habitats that protect them.
