Summer in Hokkaido

HOKKAIDO, JAPAN . 2015

Some places remind us that change isn't something to fear. It's part of how the world stays beautiful.

I travelled to Hokkaido in 2015, a region celebrated for its dramatic seasons, from fields of lavender in summer to snow-covered landscapes in winter. Surrounded by mountains, forests and open countryside, it felt wonderfully different from Japan's bustling cities. Every landscape seemed to reflect the time of year, changing its character with each passing season while remaining unmistakably itself.

Perhaps people aren't so different. We often think of change as becoming someone new, yet the seasons suggest otherwise. Trees don't stop being trees simply because they bloom, shed their leaves or stand bare through winter. They continue becoming what they were always meant to be.

Looking back at these photographs, I'm reminded that every season has its own kind of beauty. Maybe our lives do too.
