Portraits in Kenya
MAAISAI MARA, KENYA . 2017
Some communities are recognised not only by where they live, but by the traditions they continue to preserve.
During my visit to Kenya in 2017, I had the privilege of spending time with the Maasai, one of East Africa's most well-known Indigenous communities. Living across southern Kenya and northern Tanzania, the Maasai are recognised for their distinctive attire, intricate beadwork and enduring pastoral way of life. While the modern world continues to change around them, many traditions, ceremonies and customs remain an important part of their cultural identity.
Portrait photography has always been about more than appearance. Looking through these photographs, I'm reminded that every face carries a story shaped by family, history and belonging. The Maasai have a remarkable way of expressing that identity with pride, offering a glimpse into a culture that continues to honour its heritage while embracing the future in its own way.
I hope some of my photographs have inspired you to visit or pick up your cameras.
It would mean a lot to me if you appreciate my work so leave a comment to say hello!
Thanks for checking out my photographs! - Ejun Low
