Streets of Canton

GUANGZHOU, CHINA . 2023

Every city has its own rhythm. The joy of street photography is learning to move with it.

During a week in Guangzhou in 2023, I spent my days wandering the city's streets with my camera, photographing the moments, people and scenes that caught my attention. One of China's oldest trading cities, Guangzhou has long been shaped by the meeting of tradition and modern life, where historic neighbourhoods exist alongside an ever-changing urban landscape. It was the kind of place that rewarded curiosity more than careful planning.

These photographs were made with a Leica SL2 and a Sigma 24mm f/1.4 DG DN Art lens, a focal length I've always enjoyed for the way it invites you to step into a scene rather than observe it from afar. Looking back, I realise the photographs I remember most were never about the lens. They were about being present enough to notice a moment before it disappeared.
